Nicholasville, KY, November 20, 2006 – As part of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Contours Express, an all-women circuit training gym featuring real weights for real results, and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation launched their first partnership fundraiser in an effort to raise money for breast cancer research. Over 80 Contours Express clubs and 10,000 members participated nationwide in raising approximately $50,000 to support The Foundation in their charge to find a cure and further educate women about the benefits exercise has in combating and recovering from breast cancer.
“From research that The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has funded, we know that exercise is an important component of warding off breast cancer,” said Myra J. Biblowit, President, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. “Contours Express advocates strength-training exercise, community and education among their members and we’re thankful that they chose our organization to be a part of their successful outreach.”
During Breast Cancer Awareness month, hundreds of initiatives are launched in an effort to raise millions of dollars in the fight against breast cancer. In partnering with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Contours Express, the country’s #2 all-women circuit training gym behind industry-leader Curves, was ensured that at least 85% of monies raised during the “10-5 To Save Lives” Event would go directly to breast cancer research.
“We are thrilled that the ‘10-5 To Save Lives’ event was a financial success and will help fund key research for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation” said Bill Helton, President of Contours Express. “But, our pride comes in knowing that our franchise owners came together to educate the hundreds of women in communities nationwide about the benefits of strength-training exercise in helping to reduce the risk of and aiding in the recovery from breast cancer.”
The event, “10-5 To Save Lives; Exercising To Make A Difference” event was an all day fitness initiative where Contours Express members donated their 29-minute workout to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Each member raised pledges for their workouts and donated the proceeds to the cause. Prior to the launch of the event, the Contours Express’ Corporate office announced that they would donate matching funds to the BCRF, adding to the franchisees fundraising efforts.
The “10-5 To Save Lives” event was the first of many fundraising efforts that Contours Express will sponsor as part of their partnership with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Currently, both The Foundation and Contours Express are working together to concept new fundraising initiatives that will launch in June 2007.
